Requirements of Documents for a Tourist Schengen Visa.

When applying for a Tourist Schengen Visa, you must submit the following documents:

  • Visa application form fully completed with correct information, printed and signed at the end.
  • Two recent photos. Taken within the last three months,
Schengen Visa Photo Requirements

The photograph specifications for any short-term Schengen visa application are:

  • Two identical photos. Not older than six months.
  • Photo size: 35x45mm.
  • In color. No black and white
  • Head should take 70-80% of the photo.
  • Brightly colored background. Light grey is suggested. No patterns.
  • The applicant should be looking straight at the camera.
  • Neutral face expression. No smile and mouth closed
  • Avoid uniforms or colours matching the background.
  • Valid passport. No older than ten years and with a minimum validity of three months beyond your planned stay in Schengen. It must have at least two blank pages in order to be able to affix the visa sticker.
  • Roundtrip reservation or itinerary. A document that includes dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from the Schengen area.
  • Travel Health Insurance.

    Evidence that you have purchased health insurance that covers medical emergencies with a minimum of €30,000, for your whole period of stay.

  • Proof of accommodation.

    Evidence that shows where you will be staying throughout your time in Schengen. This could be a:

    • Hotel/hostel booking. With name, complete address, phone and e-mail, for the entire time you will be in the Schengen area.
    • Rent agreement. If you have rented a place, in the country you will be staying.
  • Letter of tour organizer. If you will be traveling with a tour agency.
Financial documents requirement
  • Evidence that shows you have enough money to support yourself throughout your stay in Schengen. This could be a:
    • Last six month Bank account statement.
    • Sponsorship Letter. When another person will be financially sponsoring your trip to the Schengen Zone. It is also often called as an Affidavit of Support.
    • A combination of both.
  • Evidence of employment status.
    • If employed
      • Employment contract,
      • Leave permission from the employer
      • Income Tax Return. – Last three years.
    • If self-employed
      • A copy of your business license,
      • Company’s bank statement of the latest 6 months
      • Income Tax Return (ITR) – Last three years.
    • If a student
      • Proof of enrollment &
      • No Objection Letter from University
  • Travel Itinerary. A description of your trip to Europe, your purpose of travelling, which places are you going to visit in Europe, the time frame and all the personal data.
  • For Minors:
    • Either birth certificate / proof of adoption / custody decree if parents are divorced / death certificate of parent
    • Letter of consent from parents, including passport copies of both parents/ legal guardian

Attention Visa applicants

Visa applicants are hereby informed that duly completed applications may be submitted three months onward prior to the confirmed travel date. As applications peak during the months of April through July, it is advisable to apply well in advance. This will help towards the smooth organisation of your trip to France.
1 – For general information, preparing, submitting and tracking your application log on to France-visas ( ), the official website for visa application to France.
2 – The French Consulate does not provide any information on the visa application status nor on the files under process. You will be contacted by VFS to pick up your passport once the procedure is over.
3 – Please do not send any document or invitation letters to the French Consulate by fax, email or by post unless otherwise specified. To ensure quality of our services, it is impossible for us to take into account the documents received outside of regular procedure. Kindly note that all documents sent outside of regular procedure will not be considered.
4 – Regarding appeals: no answer from our service within two months implies that the visa refusal decision is maintained. You may then lodge an appeal with the Commission of Appeal against decisions of Refusal for an entry visa in France at the following address:

5 – If your query (other than points 1, 2, 3, and 4) requires a specific answer, the visa section will send you an e-mail as soon as possible.

2 – Le consulat ne donne aucun renseignement concernant relatif au traitement d’une demande. VFS vous contactera pour récupérer le passeport.
3 – Merci ne pas envoyer de documents, directement au consulat par fax, courriel ou voix postale. Il nous est impossible de prendre en compte des documents reçus en dehors de la procédure de dépôt de demande de visa. Tout document soumis en dehors de la procédure de dépôt de demande sera supprimé ou détruit.
4 – Concernant les recours : l’absence de réponse dans les deux mois signifie que la décision de refus est maintenue. Vous pouvez alors former un recours auprès de la Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa (CRRV) à l’adresse suivante :
